The Science

Scent is your most direct access to change. I learned how to use that access strategically.

This is what science teaches us:

1. Direct contact with your emotional brain Smell is the only sense that connects directly to your limbic system - the part that regulates emotions, memory and behaviour. Other senses have to get past your analytical brain first. Smell does not.

2. Powerful memory maker Scents are stored along with the emotions of that moment. Therefore, one scent can take you back to a specific feeling, place or person. This natural connection makes scent a unique tool for change.

3. Neurological shortcuts By consciously creating new scent-emotion pairings, you are literally programming new neurological pathways. As Rachel Herz, expert in olfactory psychology, describes, “By consciously pairing a scent with a positive experience, we can create new emotional associations that are powerful enough to override old patterns.”

4. Pattern break  Because scent bypasses your analytical brain, it can interrupt old reaction patterns before they fully unfold. This gives you space to choose more consciously how you react.

My unique addition: While science explains how scent works, I have spent 20 years understanding which scents are most effective when. My blends go beyond standard ‘relaxation’ or ‘focus’ - they are designed to support specific change.

Most important: this is not a magic solution. It is a science-based method that works when you are ready to grow. Fragrance becomes your ally in that process.

With ScentStories, you use the power of your own neurology to support the changes you already want to make.
